Google To Launch Major Pilot Program with Harvard, Stanford, U Mich, Others

John Battelle’s Searchblog has the scoop!

“Harvard University is embarking on a collaboration with Google that could harness Google’s search technology to provide to both the Harvard community and the larger public a revolutionary new information location tool to find materials available in libraries. In the coming months, Google will collaborate with Harvard’s libraries on a pilot project to digitize a substantial number of the 15 million volumes held in the University’s extensive library system. Google will provide online access to the full text of those works that are in the public domain. In related agreements, Google will launch similar projects with Oxford, Stanford, the University of Michigan, and the New York Public Library.”

My first thought: how will Microsoft respond to this?

POTKAST?

Just picked up on PotKast.com from iPodcast.de

The name appears to be a Dutch derivative.

Besides international podcast listings by country/category, the service allows one to either play or download as well as to rate individual casts.

Pretty funky name though.

Critical Blog-Mass Yet?

When The New York Times reports on how big companies have successfully employed them: Blogo Ad, The.

I guess it’s official - weblogs have reached critical mass.

Back in 2001, I was convinced that it would only take a year or two for most everyone to grok their value and that every product under the sun would soon have a blog. I was wrong.

Then, when Google bought Blogger in February 2003 I was convinced it would all happen within the same year. Wrong again.

So now, will 2005 be the year in which every product gets its own blog? What about every project, every event and every group, team, club, association or even every event?

Well, if the 21st Chaos Communication Congress in Berln is an indication, then, yes!

But then again, perhaps I am just an incurable optimist who has to keep adjusting his expectations to meet reality.

PubSub LinkRanks

An interesting new metric in the blogosphere…

Thanks to Scoble for the heads-up and link to Boing Boing.
