Lab for Social Computing

The Rochester Institute of Technology launches the LSC

to engage in research, technology development, and education related to social computing–the use of technology to facilitate social and collaborative activities.

Under the directorship of Liz Lawley and a really impressive team comprising an advisory board, faculty, students and various external academic and industry partners, the lab looks well set to lead the way in landmark studies and exploration.

The first workshop in early January is titled “Weblogs and Wikis and Friendsters”.

Looking on from old Europe, one can’t help feeling a twinge of envy at such energetic advances… and wonder what it would take for something comparable to happen in Germany?
