BuzzMachine cites Joi Ito’s Season’s Greetings and Global Voices as the perfect Christmas greeting. Joi cites the Global Voices Covenant 0.2 from the Global Voices Online blog.
I’ll say amen to that for the New Year! (and add a new feed to the blogroll)
An article on OhmyNews International reports on a growing trend:
As pioneered by OhmyNews five years ago, portals allow users to leave their comments at the bottom of every article. Actually, they earn more page views out of these readers’ comments than the stories themselves. The huge amount of page views generated by the most controversial news stories is the basic staple in attracting big name advertisers for the portals.
Naver, the Korea’s largest portal has recently released data showing the top 10 news articles that appeared on their new site — according to the number of readers’ comments each article generated. Among all the news provided by various Korean news sources, the ones OhmyNews provided virtually dominated every category, including politics and local news.
Actually, correct me if I’m mistaken, but I think Slashdot was the real pioneer in this regard.
How long, though, before other major news portals jump on the bandwagon?
Intelliseek’s BlogPulse: 2004 Year in Review reveals a surprising shift in the blogosphere - at least for me, that is.
2004 has been the year in which DailyKos, Instapundit and The Drudge Report surged ahead of Slashdot in citings!
Even more surprising is Boing Boing’s leap ahead of them all to become the overall leader by a significant margin.
Who would have thunk it?
Well, Metafilter’s also right up there on slot 15, ahead of the likes of Wonkette and Gizmodo!
And wow! How about J-Walk at 26, just ahead of Kottke at 29, and Jeff Jarvis’s BuzzMachine at 32?… ahead of Scobelizer’s impressive showing at 38!
Then there’s Joi Ito’s placement at 62, ahead of Dave Winer at 67!… Lawrence Lessig at 75, techdirt at 80!… and Jeremy Zavodny on slot 99.
I can see this list gaining in importance in future, and the comparison with Technorati’s Top 100 becoming an interesting study.
