iTunes & Podcasts
Subscribing to, downloading and listening to podcasts in the new iTunes 4.9 works really well.
My first subscriptions are:
Good Value!
From another perspective, though, not everyone is so chuffed with Apple for going it alone in extended RSS for podcasting.
As Dave says:
Net-net, it would have been a really good idea to get a community review, like Microsoft did, before shipping. We could have done a lot better. Permanent link to this item in the archive.
Clearly Apple has yet to grok the community idea… like Microsoft seems to have done, at least in this regard.
Update: June 30th:
Added the BBC’s Go Digital podcast to my subscriptions.
Highly recommended.
Update: July 4th
Added the Micro Persuasion Podcast!
Also. just found Edd Dumbill’s more thorough assessment of Apple’s iTunes RSS extensions.

is that 2 pro-Microsoft posts here in 2 weeks? what’s going on? next you’ll be posting about how eating kittens for breakfast is good way to get your protein!

Yeah, scary, isn’t it!
While it’s not a wholesale agreement with the enemy, I feel it’s only fair to give credit where credit is due - and in this case, quite uncharacteristically and in a very limited area, they actually seem to have done the right thing.
Besides, I’ve always been more of a Mac enthusiast than an Apple fanboy, if you know what I mean.

just got the new podcasting itunes thing, and yeah they sure shove a load of ads and commercial stuff down your throat before you can get to the podcasting stuff, and i find the search mechanism unwieldy, especially since they keep shoving the ads in my eyeballs. But, convenience, as many colluders-in-denial have said over the centuries, is one hell of a difficult force to fight.

The front end of the music strore is quite loaded, yeah, but I actually think the search works very well - it filters all the extraneuous stuff right out.
