What is Sen No Sen?

Japanese martial arts distinguish between a number of strategies that involve various forms of timing.

Generally speaking, one can wait for the opponent to fully launch his attack, which is blocked and followed by one's own counterattack. This is known as go no sen, or the "after method".

Alternatively, just as the opponent commits himself to an attack, one seizes the initiative to counter before he has the chance of completing his intention. This is the "before method", or sen no sen.

The act of intercepting an advancing attack with a decisive counter.
